So far, I really like Hardball with Chris Matthews. It’s so much more balanced that Keith Olbermann. He still has an opinion but he’s very logical. But it might be helping that Obama is kicking some ass these days. I had lost faith in him, but now I’m thinking he might be pretty cool again.

Today Chris was talking about getting rid of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and he had this guy on that was a religious guy and Chris got him to admit, without pressuring him too much that not only did he not want gays in the military, but he thought that being gay should literally be made illegal throughout the entire country. Chris ended the interview on that note, and it was very skillful. The guy who said it was happy too. It just show that letting light shine on the truth can really help. People will think twice about what this guy is saying after he made that statement.

Today I saw some anti-abortion protesters on a corner as I was driving. I realized how ridiculous it is to protest abortion. If your goal is to make abortion illegal, just forget it, that’s never going to happen, the issue’s just too big.

Even if you just want to protest, it doesn’t make sense. It’s kind of like protesting taxes, or fossil fuels. Yeah, we all agree with you, less abortions would be nice, it would be great to pay lower taxes, and wonderful if would could reduce our use of fossil fuels. But that doesn’t matter. All of those things those things that we use now, or at least most of them, are considered necessary.

So the real question is, what can we do to prevent abortions, what can we give up or optimize to pay lower taxes, and how can we use less fossil fuels?

If you want less abortions, what are you willing to give up to get it? Are you willing to promote birth control? Are you willing to give out free college tuition for girls who have babies and give them up for adoption? What?

Because if your point is that you don’t want people to have abortions, but you don’t want anything else to change, well, have a nice day. That doesn’t matter. That’s just a dream, and you are not in control of it. You’re wasting your time and ours unless you bring something else to the table.

The French branch of the Church of Scientology was convicted of fraud and fined nearly $900,000 on Tuesday by a Paris court. But the judges did not ban the church entirely, as the prosecution had demanded, saying that a change in the law prevented such an action for fraud. The church said it would appeal.

The verdict was among the most important in several years to involve the group, which is regarded by the Internal Revenue Service as a religion in the United States but has no similar legal protection in France. It is considered a sect here, where it says it has some 45,000 adherents, out of some 12 million worldwide. It was the first time here that the church itself had been tried and convicted, as opposed to individual members.

Comment

Now we just just need to remove their tax exempt status in the United States!

I’m right now forcing myself to watch Deepak Chopra on Ellen. He is such a lying douche. He’s come out with his millionth book and his success is clear. He’s wearing diamond encrusted glasses and name dropping Michael Jackson. Well, if Michael Jackson likes him then he must be good, because Michael Jackson would never like anything that’s bad for him.

Deepak’s new book Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul: How to Create a New You is basically just a copy of The Secret and he’s just looking to take even more money from ignorant people. Ellen is eating it up. Famous and rich people always want to believe they’ve earned all that wealth, and here’s someone telling them they did earn it just by being happy and thinking positively. The rich people don’t have to feel guilty then because they think the problem is just that the other people aren’t thinking positive enough, and when they do, they will be rich too.

That’s how Deepak rakes in the celebrity endorsements. He’s selling them redemption. Celebrities aren’t greedy, they’re just happy!

Deepak Chopra Sucks.

Excerpt

“Crash” director Paul Haggis has severed his ties with the Church of Scientology, in part because of what he alleged as the organization’s stance against gay marriage.

Haggis wrote a letter addressed to Tommy Davis, the head of Scientology’s Celebrity Centre. In it, Haggis said he was disappointed by the church’s tacit denial of gay rights in the debate over California’s gay marriage ban.

The 56-year-old Haggis, who won an Oscar in 2005 for co-writing “Crash,” said he was quitting the church after 35 years.

Excerpt

The Jewish day of rest has become a bit more labor-intensive for Yosef Ball.

The Orthodox Jew and his wife are no longer using elevators custom-built for the Jewish Sabbath, ever since a rabbinical ruling last month outlawed them. Instead, they have been hiking up seven flights of stairs to get home each Saturday, lugging with them their five young children and a double stroller.

“It’s been very hard, but we’re walking up the stairs slowly and with a lot of patience,” said Ball, 29, while pushing a baby carriage with two toddlers in tow on a recent day.

Comment

They say you shouldn’t criticize someone’s religion, right? I disagree, you should criticize all religions all the time! Scientologists are crazy, nobody feels guilty stating that fact.

But what about Jews? Like anyone else, most Jews are smart, caring, loving, creative, intelligent people. Except when it comes to their religion. Then Orthodox Jews are guilted into doing all sorts of literally crazy things.

Listen, God doesn’t love you less if you use an elevator, that’s just a fact that should be fairly obvious. You’re not disgracing your grandfather in Germany if you use an elevator. Really.

Religions all over the world keep less intelligent people from gaining power by forcing them into all sorts of societal obligations. Catholics made people go to church every day, this was a good way to keep track of people and keep them from rebelling. Everyone missed a day every once in a while, and if they weren’t like by the church or especially if they criticized the church, they were punished for it.

Here’s the deal: while you’re climbing steps or buying two separate barbecues other people are moving forward with their lives. It’s your life, would you like to enjoy it, or just give it to someone else? Religions want your money and they want to control you. To get those things they keep you busy by taking your time as well.
